ABOUT
There is no other place in Asia or Southeast Asia like Bangkok, Thailand. As part of the Bangkok experience, I went on a canal tour at Tha Tian Pier near Wat Po. It was a hot day and I was going to be on the water so I took my shirt off on the long tail boat. When I came back to the Tha Tien Pier, a Thai lady sitting at her stall selling knick knacks got my attention. She pointed at me and then she tugged at her shirt, hee hawed and sighed. I was befuddled but I realized, I didn't have my shirt on. I put my shirt on and she smiled and said, "Sawadee Kaa." I responded with a smiled, "Sawadee Kap. Kapun Kap," which means, "Hello. Thank you."

When you stroll around Bangkok, many Thais may have sandles on. But look at their shirts; they are often dressed in button down shirts or short-sleeved collared shirts. One of the things that stands out about Bangkok is respect. Part of the respect is dressing decently. That means, wear shirts. Respect for Buddha and people doesn't diminish, however, in light of all the hustle and bustle in Bangkok, which seems to contradict the sense of respect. The hustle and bustle is part traffic, part markplaces where locals are trying to make a living and sell objects at inflated prices to tourists and partly, the tourists themselves.

Bangkok was founded by King Rama I. As the capital of Thailand, Bangkok lies at the southwest border of Thailand, serving as a busy international hub. Bangkok is also a true metropolitan city with high rise buildings and a sinewy highway system. As far as tourism goes, Bangkok's got it all: quaint and countless tourist attractions, shopping and great tailors, eating, nightlife, inexpensive hotels - you name it. To top it all off, the Thai people in Bangkok are more welcoming and have a greater sense of hospitality than countries like China and Korea. Remember though, Bangkok is hot.
You only need a passport to enter Thailand.

Layout
Bangkok is a fairly large city geographically. Here are some of Bangkok’s major districts. The Chao Phraya River runs directly through the city center. Starting from the west of Chao Phraya River is Riverside. Bangna Trad is also west of the river but south of Riverside. To the east of the river lies the rest of the major districts. Siam and Silom are located directly across the river from Riverside. Ratchadapisek lies on the northeast of the city center above Siam. Sukhumvit is slightly southeast of Ratchadapisek.
The northern part of Riverside, which straddles the Chao Phraya River, Siam and Sukhumvit, both of which lie east of the river, are the main tourist areas. Here, you'll find Koa san Road, the backpackers area, the Grand Palace and much more.

Language
Of course, most of the Thai people speak Thai. However, bits and pieces of English in tourist areas and hotels make getting around fairly easy.
