BEIJING FOOD
Rumor has it that Chinese food in Beijing - the Beijing cuisine - is unlike western Chinese food. That is to say, Chinese food in Beijing consists of heavier oil and less flavor. The oily part might be correct but flavor and taste are subjective. And, there is some delicious food to be had in Beijing. You can try anything from fried dough on the streets to intestines at the Wanfujing Night Market to plain old Kung Pao Chicken. The most famous dish in Beijing, however, is the Roasted Peking Duck, a scrumptous, tender feast for all food lovers. And, the most famous restaurant is the Hepingmen Quandjude.
Restaurants are abundant and vary greatly in quality and price in Beijing. They range in price and style. You can eat cheaply or treat yourself to a feast. An inexpensive way to eat is to find a bakery in the morning, grab a 3 to 4 Yuan pastry and be off for the day until lunch arrives. There is no shortage of inexpensive local mom and pop restaurants in Beijing. Many are on smaller streets. Keep your eyes peeled around Tiananmen Square and you will see smaller streets and alleys filled with restaurants. You can eat a feast for about 20 Yuan in these.
