TAOIST TEMPLE
Overview: The drive up to Beverly Hills from Cebu City is itself worth the time and money. Beverly Hills, ironically, is the upscale town just 20 minutes outside Cebu City. The streets are somewhat narrow and are lined with stone walls all along the route to the Taoist Temple. The foliage spills over the stone walls and seeps through the walls' cracks.
The Chinese Taoist Temple stands in stark contrast to the predominantly Catholic province of Cebu. It was built in 1972 by the Chinese community Cebu's ritzy Beverlly Hills. The multi-floor temple, which venerates the teachings of the Chinese philosopher, Lao-Tse, has many highlights, including the 99 ascending steps to the entrance, a replica of the Great Wall, a large, colorful dragon, well-manicured lawns and a beautiful bridge. Equally as impressive, the Taoist Temple offers a fantastic view of the surrounding areas and Cebut City.
