Huangpu District
(The Bund, Yan'an Lu, Nanjing Lu, Jin Ling Lu)
The Bund runs along Zhongshan Lu, which stretches from Jin Ling Road for about a mile north. Zhongshan Lu, which is on the west side of the Huangpu River, runs parallel with the river. The sidewalks are a bit older, stylish flat bricks. Across this street is the smooth, concrete boardwalk along the waterfront.
The buildings along the Bund are old from the French and British colonial days. This makes a lot of them hard to access because of steps.
Nanjing Lu, the most famous of the streets, is wheelchair accessible. The sidewalks range from normal size (like you would find in the states) to wide in the shopping areas. Curbs have ramps and most of the shopping centers are accessible.
A truly nice accessible area centers around People's Park where you'll find the Shanghai Grand Theatre and the Shanghai Museum. The streets are nicely paved, sidewalks are clean and curbs have ramps.
Yan'an and Jin Ling Lu run parallel east and west to Nanjing. They have a little more wear and tear simply because a lot of the sidewalks are newer on Nanjing Lu since the commercial and retail districts are located on this street. Sometimes you'll find on Yan'an Lu and Jin Ling Lu that sidewalks don't have ramps on side. But, the sidewalks aren't high either.
Luwan
The main streets in Luwan from south to north are Julu Lu, Fuxing and HuaiHai. These Julu Lu and Fuxing, which is the center of the French Concession, are fairly quiet streets. The streets themselves are paved with blacktop and the sidewalks are mainly flat, worn, smooth bricks. The sidewalks range from normal to somewhat wide sizes. Huaihai Lu, a rival shopping district to Nanjing Lu and the north start of Luwan, is pretty crowded but the streets and sidewalks are wheelchair accessible. This street runs east and west and is one, main block south of Jin Ling Lu. Sidewalks range from large, flat concrete to small, flat, worn bricks.
Fuxing The older French colonial and British colonial style buidlings crowd this part of town. There tends to be steps up and steps down.
Pudong
Pudong near the waterfront and around the Oriental Pearl TV Tower is very wheelchair accessible. It's a newer area with plain ole flat, concrete sidewalks.
