THE BUND SHANGHAI
Overview: The famous Bund (means, "embankment") is Shanghai's crown jewel of tourist attractions. The Bund is located in the Huangpu District just west of the Huangpu River. It's an area that runs along Zhongshan Lu from Jin Ling/Yan'an about a mile north. What makes this Shanghai's jewel is the line of baroque, gothic buildings, the boardwalk along the riverfront and the harbor view. A couple of the sexy buildings of the Bund are the central HSBC Buiding and the Customs House.
The impressive buildings of the Bund were built by the British, and today, the Bund buildings are financial centers. These buildings stand in contrast with many of the surrounding modern highrises. The Bund offers plenty of restaurants so take a stroll, relax and watch the Shanghai action around you.
Cost: Free!
Accessibility: The Bund itself is accessible. The real issue is getting across Zhongshan Lu, which is a really wide street. A little north of Nanjing Lu is the Peace Hotel and across the street on the boardwalk is Chen Yi Square. Around here, there is a tunnel.
